Mary Green Beckman (1923-2010), who earned her Bachelor of Music degree at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and her Master of Music degree from Cleveland Institute of Music, was a professor of harp and music at the University of Northern Iowa from 1947 to 1990.  The correspondence between her and Salzedo took place between 1945-1950 while Beckman was at Oberlin.

The collection consists of correspondence from Carlos Salzedo to Mary Green, including invoices and clippings concerning the Harp Colony in Camden, Maine, as well as some copies of correspondence from Mary Green to Salzedo. The correspondence, which covers the years when Mary Green studied at Oberlin College and obtained her position at the University of Northern Iowa, concerns the Salzedo Harp Colony, performances and teaching, and matters raised by Mary Green’s (copies not kept in the collection). The correspondence includes references to Elyse Yockey (Harp ’52), a former student of Mary Green, who attended the Camden Harp Colony in the summer of 1949 and was accepted by Salzedo at Curtis in 1950.

In addition, the series contains a letter from a Mrs. Brands in 1948, apparently a former teacher in Detroit, where Mary Green grew up.
