The Ella Geer correspondence comprises 135 letters from Ella Geer to her fiance Keith Emery about her experiences as a violin student at the Curtis Institute of Music during the 1926-27 school year. The collection includes a biographical sketch, summaries and excerpts of letters, provided by her daughter Carol Emery Bastian.

Biographical note

Ella Geer was born and raised in Charleston, Illinois, and had violin lessons from a member of St. Louis Symphony Orchestra before being admitted at the Curtis Institute of Music for the 1926-27 school year. Although she was allowed to return, she chose to marry her fiance instead. After the birth of three children she taught violin, and was a member of the Cleveland Women’s Symphony and the Denver Symphony Orchestra.
