- The collection contains programs, photographs, memorabilia, and printed compositions, as well as as an early clipping scrapbook, and a scrapbook with letters from former students for his 75th birthday.

The Russian-born violinist Efrem Zimbalist, a student of Leopold Auer, made his debut in the United States in 1911, where he settled and married the world-famous soprano Alma Gluck in 1914. In 1928 he was appointed to the violin faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he headed the violin department from 1931, and was the school’s director from 1941 to 1968. A widower from 1938, he married Curtis’s founder, Mary Louise Curtis Bok, in 1943.
The collection is arranged in the following series: 1. Clipping scrapbook, 1908-1916; 2. Programs, 1915-1962; 3. Compositions, 1944 and n.d.; 4. Photographs, 1910-1982; 5. Tributes and memorabilia, 1963-64, 1982.

The collection is compiled from various resources. The programs in series 2 were a gift from Zimbalist’s granddaugher in 1993. The photographs in series 4 were moved from the Vladimir Sokoloff collection (MSS 22).
